The Making of the "Wienzi"
After a pleasant run-in with the Virzi tone producer on F-5 #76547, I decided that it was worth more investigation, so what the heck, I whipped a few up...
Actually there was more to it than that. Here's some pictures of them being made using a template and pin router setup. The Winzi being clamped to the template.
The Pin router being lowered onto the clamped Wienzi.
The freshly routed f-holes in the newly formed Wienzi.
The finished Winzi sound plate.
A garden of Wienzis after the bracing legs have been attached.
The finished Wienzi glued onto the top with hide glue.
The back and sides now attached, you can see how the Wienzi sits in relation to the rest of the mandolin.
Never one to take myself too seriously, I had these reproduction stamps made with several tongue-in-cheek names for the new Wienzi...Tone Reducer, Tone Re-User, Tone Confuser...you get the picture. Which will you end up with? The finished mando has a name-matched hand letterpressed and numbered label printed to match.
